Subject: Charter Review Commission Appointment
Recommendation
Approve the appointment of Mr. Michael A. Lara to the Charter Review Commission (5th
Ward).
Background
The Charter Review Commission was established by Resolution No. 2017-243 on
December 20, 2017 and is tasked with completing a periodic review of the City Charter
to identify potential amendments that enhance clarity, efficiency, and the principles of
the council-manager form of government.
The commission is comprised of nine (9) members who serve at the pleasure of the
Mayor and City Council. Pursuant to Chapter 2.17 of the Municipal Code and Resolution
No 2017-243, each City Council member nominates one member who shall serve
during and for the term of the nominating Council member. The Mayor appoints the
remaining two members, who serve during and for the term of the Mayor.

The proposed commission appointment aligns with Key Target No. 2: Focused, Aligned
Leadership And Unified Community by building a culture that attracts, retains, and
motivates the highest quality talent.
