Kelley, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Congressional Relations, Office of Congressional and Intergovernmental Relations, submitted the following HUD reply.- Hi eply: Hi Curt: Here are responses to your questions regarding the Economic Development Initiative (EDI) grant awarded to the City of San Bernardino for the Verdemont Community Center project: 1. Did the City of San Bernardino receive. a X500,000 grant from the federal government for the Verdemont Community Center? The city of San Bernardino was awarded a $500,000 Economic Development Initiative (EDI) grant (Grant # B -10 -SP -CA -0144) however the funds were never drawn down or used. 1. What was the purpose of the grant? The purpose of the grant funds were for the construction of the Verdemont Community Center, however the funds were never drawn down by the City of San Bernardino. 1. If the funds were received, is there -a record of the transfer to the city? The funds were received in the form of a EDI grant award, however they were never drawn down by the city therefore these is no record of any funds being requested or advanced to the city. I. If the City of San Bernardino did receive the funding and returned the grant funds is there a record of this? When did this occur? The city let the funds expire without drawing any money from the grant. Based on a report from the Line of Credit Control System (LOCCS), the funds were setup in the system on April 11, 2011 and were never accessed before the grant term ended so the funds were automatically de -obligated and recaptured on September 29, 2017. The Kendall Hills Neighborhood Association hopes that your office can help answer the following questions: Did the City of San Bernardino receive a $500,000 grant from the federal goverment for the Verdemont Community Center? If the funds were received, is there a record of the transfer to the city? If the City of San Bernardino did receive the funding and returned the grant funds is there a record of this? When did this occur? To assist you in your research, the Verdemont Community Center opened in Septermber of 2011. There are a number of local newspaper accounts on the opening. In the newspaper articles the funding source and congresional assistance is referenced (U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development).
