HomeMy WebLinkAboutspeaker cardsAgenda Item 11 on July 19 2017 City of San Bernardino Shirley Harlan I reviewed this item and am concerned that widening 40th Street has not included contacting the residences that this project impacts. It appears to have been in the works since July 2, 2012. I have just become aware of it. It is my impression that widening will improve the area. However my concern is that frequently projects are not sufficiently reviewed with residences and business in the area and have produced conflicting city council meetings that I have been in attendance. I am expressing concern. This resolution deals with "cultural" concerns that are not specific in the report. What does this really mean? To me it conveys neighborhood enhancement, which we certainly need and the cost is very high so nearby residents need to be involved. Please refer to the map on page 95 and note the two bus stops one at Newmark and other at Sepulveda, presently minimal seating with no cover protection and I have reported garbage dumping. Has the Omni Transit System been informed and prepared to upgrade these so that they are substantial and complement the area. At present both stops are an eye sore and substandard compared to others on our main streets. This is a necessity and cultural concern! Improving 40th Street will encourage development of the vacant lots and other creative connections to the businesses at each end of this street. Is the City gathering the adjacent street owners to share their ideas with the Engineering Consultants! What plans are in the works to coordinate with this project and future planning development? I gave up driving and I am using public transportation and want to walk or bike safely. I meet other in the neighborhood doing the same. We have talked and they have shared my concerns. This project is taking a long time to complete and costing a lot without us knowing the impact to our community adjacent to the 40th project widening.
