Carey Davis Members of the Common City Council City of San Bernardino, CA City Hall Plaza. 290 North D" Street 92401 Honorable Mayor Carey Davis & Esteemed Members of the City Council This correspondence shall serve as a letter of introduction and as a means of public appeal for assistance in petition. We as concerned residents of the 211 Ward, residing within the boundaries of Baseline Avenue on the North, "D" Street to the West, Arrowhead Avenue to the East, and 11'l' Street on the Southern boundary, would like to bring to your attention what appears to be a steady disruption and decline in the stability of our neighborhood. The elements of crime in many and various forms has always been a fact in which we as residents have had to live with, and to be, quite frankly, felt secure as long as we remained within our homes, most especially, after the light of day has set. Within the transition of time, we have witnessed heavy automobile traffic, and possible drug transactions centered around the apartment complexes located within the vicinity of Mayfield Street. The traffic being so gridlocked and congested it reminded those of us who can remember the traffic leading out of the old time Saturday night movie at a local drive -in -theater. We have recalled the countless sounds of gunshots going off at wee late night hour in close proximity and pray that the bullets would not be coming through the walls, windows, and doors of our homes----- we still do. We have experienced many of us, on different occasions during early morning hours, in the course of day and night, break ins of our homes, broken windows, defacement of property, and always the emerging deterioration and unsightly state of property most evident throughout the neighborhood in general, i.e. trash everywhere, discarded unsightly old furniture, tires, pot holes, graffiti, and bad security street lighting. A perfect mix that often breeds the criminal elements and resulting violent confrontations and Gunfire. In our efforts addressing these concerns, we as residents of the neighborhood within the specific boundaries as noted in this correspondence have arrived at a collective conclusive consensus, that we can no longer tolerate the level of disruption in the neighborhood and most assuredly the feeling of helplessness, frustration, and fear impacting upon us as residents of our community. As a new normal, For your reference, we have identified the problem and center of our concerns as the apartment complex addressed as the 1100 series on Mayfield Street. To this end, we as concerned residents concerned for the safety and wholesome wellbeing of our families submit here a formal request for assistance from your office of authority, resources, agencies, and powers that be, to assist us in establishing stability in our neighborhood. Therefore, we the under -signed affix our hand in signature to this instrument of formal petition.
