HomeMy WebLinkAbout04.0- Presentations RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL HONORING AND COMMENDING STEVE & LINDA S UTHERLAND OF FUN CORNER ON THEM RETIREMENT NOVEMBER 7, 2016 WHEREAS, after 60 years of year-round sales of costumes, make-up and accessories, both Steve and Linda Sutherland, the owners of Fun Corner announced that they are retiring their business and October 31, 2016 would be their last Halloween. Blow-out sales began on November I and will close on November 27, 2016; and WHEREAS, the Sutherlands bought the store in 1984, after decades on Base Line and D Street - originally, right at the corner. Retiring seems to be the right choice for their family, but is a significant civic loss for the community; and WHEREAS, Fun Corner did much more than just sell Halloween costumes. They also did party planning, make-up and sold costumes year-round too. Steve taught classes in costume make-up; and WHEREAS, Linda was President of the Base Line Business Association for many years, and was very committed to the San Bernardino Community. They were also members of the Sunset Rotary Club and very involved with the annual Tinman Triathlon and Youth Tinman Race -for those with physical and developmental challenges; and WHEREAS, Steve plans to bring his Ben Nye Make-Up Department to Party Plus in Redlands where he will give lessons on how to both create and apply make-up; and WHEREAS, Steve and Linda have a beautiful 8 year old granddaughter Sofia who has cerebral palsy, who they spend a lot of time with. Linda plans to continue working with special needs children. The Sutherlands plan to stay busy with the Renaissance Fair in Irwindale, Junior University and various community events; and WHEREAS, Steve and Linda Sutherland have partnered and faithfully served the San Bernardino community at Fun Corner creating an unforgettable icon in our city; and NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved, on this occasion, and in appreciation of their dedication and impressive contribution to the City of San Bernardino and its citizens, we, on behalf of the Mayor and Common Council of the City of San Bernardino, do enjoin, commend, and offer our best wishes in their retirement to STEVE & LINDA SUTHERLAND "FUN CORNER" and we thank them for having an outstanding and exemplary record of public service. a.Gtt� (�J VIRGI 1��L'� R. �AREY�A S Q ENR CKEL Council Member, First Ward Mayor Council Member, Fifth Ward ��RNARDjhO BEMTO J.
