Resolution of the Mayor and Common Council of the City of San Bernardino Authorizing
the Appropriation of $300,000 from the Cultural Development Fund for Use by the Fine
Arts Commission in Fiscal Year 2016-17. (#4577)

Financial Impact:
This Council Action appropriates $300,000 from account Account No. 247-090-0053-
5502 - Cultrual Development Fund -- for use in FY 2016-17.
There is no General Fund financial impact with this Council action.
Motion: Adopt the Resolution.
Background:
The Fine Arts Commission renewed the city's Arts program in 2015, re-instituting the
Fine Arts Grants program in an effort to fund programs for qualifying non-profit arts
organizations, Parks and Recreation community centers, and classroom teachers within
the City of San Bernardino for the enhancement and support of city-wide art and cultural
programs of benefit and interest to a broad segment of the city's population.
During the budget process the Fine Arts Commission was not awarded a set amount to
use for FY 2016-17, but has requested that the council award a firm amount so that they
can advertise to potential grant applicants how much funding is available for this year's
fine arts grants.
This year the Fine Arts Commission is requesting $300,000 to cover the grant
applications expected from area non-profit groups, as well as requests for support for
city-sponsored art walks and other art projects throughout the city.
