Recommended Motion: • Approve salary increases for the following Headstart/Preschool positions, retroactive to September 1, 1997: Teacher/Director from $12.73/hr to $13.10/hr; Teacher from $10.53/hr to $11.38/hr; Typist Clerk from $6.89/hr to $7.52/hr; and, Teacher Aid from $6.89/hr to $7.52/hr. • List Teacher Aide (Headstart) and Typist Clerk (Headstart), part-time/temporary, in the section of the resolution which identifies positions entitled to various benefits. • That said resolution be adopted amending Resolution 6413, Section Thirteen, to reflect this particular action. ignature Contact person: Edward S. Descriptio ) Salaries - Full-Time/Part-Time Finance: Council Notes: Agenda Item No. �)-i iS-e�9f Lf .;�IIk CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO - REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION STAFF REPORT BACKGROUND The Parks, Recreation & Community Services Department operates the Headstart/Preschool Program. The program is federally funded and administered through the County of San Bernardino's Department of Preschool Services. The grant dictates the pay rates for the funded positions. The 1997-98 grant provides for pay increases for the following positions: Current Proposed Position Salary Sdary Teacher/Director $12.73/hr $13.10/hr Teacher $10.53/hr $11.38/hr Typist Clerk $6.89/hr $7.52/hr Teacher Aide $6.89/hr $7.52/hr* Since this is a funded program, there will be no impact to the City's General Fund. It is requested that the proposed pay rates become effective retroactively to September 1, 1997, through August 31, 1998, which coincides with the contract dates. The last salary increase for these positions was effective September 1, 1995. *The last salary increase for this position was effective September 1, 1996. In accordance with the stipulations of the grant, Teacher Aide (Headstart) and Typist Clerk (Headstart) are entitled to various benefits including health, vacation and sick leave accrual. Both positions are currently listed in a section of the resolution which identifies positions not entitled to benefits. Due to the grant stipultions, these positions have been moved into the section of the resolution that include benefits.
