Synopsis of Previous Council action:
11/7/94 Mayor and Common Council/Community Development Commission approved the
following dates for regular meetings in 1995 of the Mayor and Common
Council and the Community Development Commission: January 9 and 23;
February 6 and 20; March 6 and 20; April 3 and 17; May 1 and 15;
June 5 and 19; July 10 and 24; August 7 and 21; September 5 and 18;
October 2 and 16; November 6 and 20; December 4 and 18, 1995.
11/15/93 Mayor and Council approved changing the Council meeting dates for the
month of January 1994 to the second and fourth Monday (January 10 and
24, 1994) .
Recommended motion:
That the Mayor and Common Council/Community Development Commission approve the
following dates for regular meetings in 1997 of the Mayor and Common Council and
the Community Development Commission: January 13 and 27; February 3 and 17;
March 3 and 17; April 7 and 21; May 5 and 19; June 2 and 16; July 7 and 21;
August 4 and 18; September 2 and 15; October 6 and 20; November 3 and 17; December
1 and 15, 1997.

STAFF REPORT

Council/Community Development Commission

RE : Agenda Item for Mayor and Council/Commission meeting of
November 4 , 1996 - Council Meeting Dates for 1997
I would like to request that the Mayor and Council/Community
Development Commission approve the following Council/Commission
regular meeting dates for 1997 : January 13 and 27; February 3
and 17 ; March 3 and 17; April 7 and 21; May 5 and 19 ; June 2 and
16 ; July 7 and 21; August 4 and 18 ; September 2 and 15 ; October 6
and 20 ; November 3 and 17; December 1 and 15 .
Except for meetings noted in the next two paragraphs, all other
regular Council/Commission meetings in 1997 will take place on
the first and third Mondays of each month. Section 35 of the
City Charter provides that adjournments may be taken from a
meeting to a day certain, and in such cases the adjourned meeting
shall be deemed an adjourned regular meeting.
Due to the anticipated one-week closure of City Hall during the
December holidays and conflicts with meeting agenda deadlines, it
is proposed that Council/Commission meetings in January be held
on the 2nd and 4th Monday of the month (January 13 and 27) ,
rather than the first and third Monday. If approved, this change
will result in having back-to-back meetings the last Monday in
January and the first meeting in February.
In September, the first Monday of the month falls on Labor Day, a
legal holiday. Therefore, the first regular meeting for the
month of September should be scheduled for Tuesday, September 2 ,
1997 .
With the Mayor and Common Council' s approval of a year-long
schedule of regular meeting dates, it will make it easier for all
concerned so that we can notify departments with as much advance
notice as possible of deadlines for submitting agenda items for
the entire calendar year.
