Recommended motion:
1. That the Director of Public Works/City Engineer and the City Clerk are hereby
authorized to proceed with the proposed vacation of the generally Southwest
to Northeast alley lying between Ralston Avenue and Sonora Drive and between
Palmyra Drive and Sonora Drive (West of Waterman Avenue and South of 40th
Street.

2. That Plan No. 9235, showing the proposed vacation of the generally Southwest
to Northeast alley lying between Ralston Avenue and Sonora Drive and between
Palmyra Drive and Sonora Drive (West of Waterman Avenue ar th of 40th

STAFF REPORT
A request was received from Harry Gerken requesting the vacation of the alley which
runs generally Southwest to Northeast and lies between Ralston Avenue and Sonora
Drive and between Palmyra Drive and Sonora Drive (West of Waterman Avenue and South
of 40th Street. All of the owners and tenants whose properties abut the alley have
signed petitions of approval for the vacation. The petitioner has deposited the
required $500.00, which represents one-half of the total fee of $1,000.00. The
remaining $500.00 will be due after the investigative proceedings, if the petition-
ers wish to proceed.
The neighbors are concerned that the easy access to the alley is the reason for the
increased crime in the neighborhood - drug dealing, breaking into and stealing from
cars, breaking into and entering homes and garages, transients loitering in the
alley, unknown men riding bicycles back and forth through the alley, and one case
of prostitution.
Vacating this alley would reduce liability and maintenance costs to the City, and
allow the adjoining property owners to install gates at each end of the alley.
For these reasons, we recommend the proposed vacation for your approval.
