STAFF REPORT
Subiect:
Approval of Plans and Authorization to Advertise for Bids for installation of street trees along Highland Avenue
from "E" Street to Waterman Avenue, per Plan 9845.
Background:
On June 25, 1998, the City Engineer executed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), activity number 97-
231, with the Development Department of the Economic Development Agency authorizing the design and
installation of additional street trees along Highland Avenue from "E" Street to Waterman Avenue. This MOU
allocated additional funding in the amount of$110,000 from fiscal year 1997/98.
It was determined that $110,000 would not be adequate to complete the entire reach between "E" Street and
Waterman Avenue, so EDA allocated an additional $110,000, covered by MOU activity number 98-233,
from fiscal year 1998/99. This additional allocation provided a total funding amount of$220,000.
This project consists of installing 108 - 24" box Fern Pine street trees, together with concrete grates and
irrigation system.
The estimated total project cost is as follows:
Construction Contract: $175,900
Engineering (W.O 5040) $ 4,529
Contract Administration & Inspection (10% ±) 17,590
Subtotal: $198,019
Contingencies (Approx. 10%) 21,981
Total: $220,000
We estimate that construction can start in July 1999 and be completed by September 1999.
Financial Impact:
This project is 100% funded by CDBG Activity Nos. 97-231 ($110,000) & 98-233 ($110,000). Staff charges
for Engineering, administrative and inspection will be charged to account no. 001-181-5952-5040 which will
be 100% reimbursed by the CDBG grant.
Recommendation:
That the Mayor and Common Council approve Plan No. 9845 and authorize the Director of Development
Services to Advertise for Bids for the installation of street trees along Highland Avenue from "E" Street to
Waterman Avenue
