(#4254) Current Business Registration Certificate: Not Applicable Financial Impact: The overall Charter 186 financial impact for the Fire Safety group will result in an increase of approximately $566,564.00 to the General Fund and requires an appropriation from the General Fund fund balance to the various Fire Department salary and benefit accounts. Motion: Adopt the Resolution. i Synopsis of Previous Council Action: On July 6, 2015, the Mayor and Common Council approved the establishment of salaries for Fire Department Ranges P-1 (Firefighter), P-2 (Paramedic), P-3 (Fire Engineer), and P-4 (Captain/Fire Investigator), effective August 1, 2014. Background: Section 186 of the City Charter establishes a formula for setting salaries for local safety employees, effective August 1St of each year. An agreement was reached with the Fire Safety Unit for the 10 cities to be utilized for the August 1, 2015 calculations. The salaries of those cities have been averaged to determine the salaries for 2015 Fire Safety classifications. The Firefighter Trainee salary will be set at $4,482.30 per month ($25.86 per hour), which is 80% of the Firefighter (P-1), Step 1, salary. When fringe benefits and other salary driven costs (CaIPERS, Unemployment, Medicare) are added, the increase to salary and benefits is $392,928, overtime costs are $173,636, for a total General Fund increase of$566,564 for FY 2015-16.
