06-19-89 -- Change Order No. 1 approved extending the contract for
one year, adjusting bid prices by 6 . 5% for inflation,
incorporating supplemental items of work, for an
increase in annual contract price to $29 , 977 . 00 .
Recommended motion:
That Change Order No. 2 to the contract with Mentone Turf Supply,
for the Maintenance of Landscaping in Assessment District No. 976 ,
in accordance with Plan No. 7034-B, be approved; to authorize the
Contractor to renovate the deteriorated landscaping material (lo-
cated at the southwest corner of Pine and Belmont Avenues) at an
increase in the contract price of $7 , 400 . 00 , from $48 ,619 . 00 to
$56 , 019 . 00 .

STAFF REPORT
One of the conditions of approval in 1986 for Tract No.
11844 was that the parkways along Pine Avenue and Belmont Avenue
be landscaped. Additional landscaping was installed at the
southwest corner of Pine Avenue and Belmont Avenue, due to the
remnant parcel created by the Bailey Creek Flood Control Channel.
Over the intervening 7 years, the condition of the ground
cover installed has deteriorated, due to aging of the plant
material and extra wear and tear from being on a corner.
In order to maintain the desired level of esthetics, it
was deemed necessary to remove and replace about 8 , 000 square
feet of ground cover. This operation entailed removing the
existing plant material , scarifying the soil , adding soil
amendments, modifying the irrigation system and reseeding the
area.
The landscape maintenance contractor has quoted a price of
$7 ,400. 00 for doing this extra work. We have reviewed this price
and determined that it is fair and reasonable for the amount of
extra work that was done.
The additional costs incurred for Change Order No. 2 will
be financed through assessments on the various parcels within
Assessment District No. 976 .
We recommend that Change Order No. Two, to the contract
with Mentone Turf for maintenance of the landscaping, be
approved.

modify the sprinkler system, and install seed for plant turf grass,
as directed by the Resident Engineer, at a total cost of $7,400. 00.
