STAFF REPORT
Plans for installation of traffic signals and channeli-
zation, at Mt. Vernon Avenue and 21st Street, have been prepared
and the project is ready to be advertised for bids. The project
consists, in general , of installing fully automated traffic
signals and highway safety lighting, and installing a curbed
island.
Below is an estimate of the total project cost:

Sub-Total $ 131 ,400

TOTAL ESTIMATED PROJECT COST $ 151 , 000
Additive Alternate "A"
Install Stamped Concrete in Island -
1 , 905 sq. ft. @ $4 . 27/sq. ft. $ 8 , 150
Inclusion of stamped concrete within the curbed island to be con-
structed by this project will increase the total estimated
project cost from $151 , 000 to $159 , 150 .
Direction was given at the Council meeting of 3-04-96 to
investigate the cost of providing audible pedestrian signals for
the hearing impaired. Six of these audible signals would be
needed at this intersection. The unit cost is quoted at $350
each, which would increase the cost by about $2 , 100 , in the event
that it is desired to provide this feature in connection with the
new traffic signals.
Authorization was granted at the Council meeting of 3-04-
96 to proceed with the design, with the funding source to be
identified at a later date.. The funding source should be
identified before the project is advertised for bids.
