HomeMy WebLinkAbout05- Public Comment June3, 1996 Mayor & Common Council San Bernardino City Council San Bernardino, CA Dear Mayor Minor & Members of the Common Council: The Baseline Area Business Association proposes that the city adopt a new program to keep our public streets cleaner. During the last year BABA has unofficially adopted our street of Baseline from the "H" Street offramp to Waterman Avenue. Every Saturday morning trash is picked up and sidewalks are swept. We are now asking that we be allowed to officially adopt these streets. We are proposing that the city set up a program that parallels that of the freeway adoption program. This program would instill a sense of pride and responsibility in the citizens choosing to participate. As a street is adopted, the city council could issue an official proclamation stating that the street has been adopted. A sign, much like those used on the freeways would be installed on the street. An adopted street could be up to 1 mile increments. Minimum requirements would include cleaning and sweeping of the sidewalks once a month. We propose that major business streets be the first streets up for adoption. Perhaps other business districts would be willing to adopt the major streets in their areas. We anticipate that there will be many civic, scout, youth and church groups willing to participate in this program. One of our goals of the Baseline Area Business District is instill pride in our whole city.
