Description) "I" Street Sewer & Storm Drain Finance, \ Council Notes: 75-0262 Agenda Item No___- _ _ CITY- OF SAN BSRI&RDINO RE Q FIRST RR COUNCIL ACTION STAFF REPORT The plans for installation of Phase I of the Northwest Intercepting Sewer direct the Contractor to install a 48-inch diameter steel casing under the railway, south of Rialto Avenue. The length of this casing was shown as 25 feet. These plans were reviewed by a representative from Santa Fe, who indicated they were acceptable. However, during a meeting prior to commencing work on the installation of the sewer and storm drain under the railway, the Field Engineer for Santa Fe stated that the casing would have to be 75 feet in length, in order to comply with their standards. The Contractor advised us that there would be a long delivery time for the 50 feet of additional casing. If the Con- tractor was forced to suspend operations, while waiting for delivery of the additional casing, substantial delay claims would be generated. The plans for the storm drain direct the Contractor to install 75 feet of steel casing. A solution was developed, in cooperation with Santa Fe personnel , to delete the 75 feet of casing for the storm drain (since it is 3000-D reinforced concrete pipe) , and encase the pipe with a 7 sack concrete slurry. The 75 feet of casing, acquired by the Contractor for the storm drain, could then be installed for the sewer line. Change Order No. One authorizes the Contractor to provide an estimated quantity of 358 cubic yards of slurry, at a unit price of $54 . 95 per cubic yard, delete the 25 feet of casing, and provide a credit for the amount of fill that will be replaced by the slurry. The total net estimated additional cost for Change Order No. One is $12 , 812 . 00 . The total estimated cost for Phase I of the intercepting sewer contained an amount of $110 , 395 . 50 for contingencies, which can be used to finance the cost for the extra work. All costs incurred for Change Order No. One will be charged to Account No. 245-365-5504-1526 . We recommend that Change Order No. One be approved.
