N `� Council Member, 61h Ward �� *` Safi brltt4 COMMENDATIONoF THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL HONORING ,k RICHARD DEWBERRY SAN BERNARDINO POLICE RESERVE OFFICER Whereas, Reserve Officer Richard Dewberry has a long and dedicated tenure with the San Bernardino Police Department. He was originally appointed to the rank of Reserve Police Officer in 1965. At that time, the San Bernardino Police Reserve Unit had approximately 100 members. The Department Reserve Coordinator was Sergeant Richard Shaddox. The Police Chief during that time was Louis J. Fortuna.. As a Reserve Officer, Officer Dewberry worked many hours of patrol, engaging in a variety of functions including responding to calls for service, prisoner transport, and traffic-related matters. In addition to serving in the capacity of a field officer, Officer Dewberry participated on the San Bernardino Police Reserve Pistol Team from the late 1960's through mid 1980's. Reserve Officer Dewberry and his Pistol Team traveled state-wide for pistol competitions, winning many shooting awards and honoring the San Bernardino Police Department; and Whereas, Officer Dewberry has continually served the citizens of San Bernardino for 50 years, most recently as the Reserve Unit Range Master from 1993 through-the present. A very well-rounded individual, Officer Dewberry is known for his amazing 15 pound peach cobbler, which he routinely prepared for full-time and reserve officers to enjoy while working at National Orange Show events. Officer Dewberry is recognized as one of the Department's top marksmen. Officer Dewberry has qualified for and received the Department's highest honors for marksmanship. In the years 2009 to Current, Officer Dewberry was awarded the "Master" shooter award, scoring an astonishing 100% accuracy each year. Officer Dewberry was also recognized in 2008 with the San Bernardino Police Department Reserve Unit's Distinguished Service Award. He was again recognized in 2010 with the San Bernardino Police Department Reserve Unit's Dedicated Service Award for his many years of service to the community; and Whereas, Given his vast experience, Officer Dewberry is looked to for guidance from members of the Reserve Unit, as a historian and Range Master, and most importantly as an inspiration to others who, like Officer Dewberry, freely give back to their communities and the citizens of San Bernardino. Just as, if not more, important as all of the foregoing, Officer Dewberry is well regarded as one of the friendliest and most outgoing members of the San Bernardino Police Department. Officer Dewberry has an exceptional attitude and sociable demeanor, which serve both him and the Department well. Officer Dewberry has volunteered an astounding 37,800 hours in the past 50 years. Officer Dewberry routinely receives the San Bernardino Police Department Reserve Unit's "Highest Donated Hours" award for his dedicated service. If calculated at the current Top Step P-1 pay rate of a San Bernardino Police Officer ($46.55 1hour), Officer Dewberry's volunteer efforts provided a cost savings to the City of San Bernardino of $1,759,590 not including any benefit savings and the significant revenue generated by Officer Dewberry from hundreds of citations, tows and impound fees generated while working patrol; and Whereas, Officer Dewberry is currently retired, having completed a 32-year career with the 7-Up Bottling Company where he worked as a salesman and was recognized as "Salesman of the Month" many times. Richard and his wife Judy have three adult children: Richard Jr., Natalie, and Lisa. They also have four granddaughters, three great-granddaughters and one great-grandson.
