Attached is a letter from Mr. King outlining the plans for the event. Additionally, he is requesting waiver of fees for City services. The fees amount to: Public Services: $ 169 . 76 for trash removal Police: $6, 659. 68 (based upon 5, 000 attendance) Traffic Eng. : $ 459 for labor in placing/removal of barricades $ 300 refundable deposit for barricades TOTAL $7, 588 . 44 The Police Department is processing the parade application and is waiting for the certificate of insurance to complete the approval. One of the main purposes of the Million Man March was to go back and be an asset to your communities. This is our goal to make that happen. We are planning to bring African-American people in both Riverside and San Bernardino counties together for the purpose to enhance economic, education, political and social development of African-Americans. PLAN: One of our primary goal is to have an "African-American Unity Family Gathering"(rally) on Saturday, January 13, 1996 during the hours 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM at 300 N. "D" Street, City Hall (in front of Martin Luther King's statue) in San Bernardino. The Inland Empire African-American Unity Coalition aka Unity Coalition is an ad hoc committee consisting of organizations, churches, businesses, and individuals to combat racism and build our spiritual and collective potential. To create a vehicle to enhance economic, political and social development of African-Americans, and build strong positive institutions. To specifically build on the promise of the Million Man March--to accept responsibility for ourselves in order to liberate African-American people. Our theme is "Umjoa: The Power Of Unity". This is a brief listing of the people/organizations already involved with this effort: Jim King, Brian Townsend, Wallace Allen, Muhammad Hakeem, The Greater Riverside Area Urban League, West Side Action Group, Rosalyn Kraut, San Bernardino Black Culture Foundation, Tonya Humphry, Black Research Information Center, Art Robinson, Sigmond "X", Charles Bibbs and Greg Goodwin. The purpose of the gathering is to bring together non-profit organizations, public agencies (such as Veterens Administration, Aids To Families With Dependent Children and Homeless Shelters, etc.), churches, educators, fraternities and sororities, lawyers, physicians, associations (such as African- American Police Officers Association), art, youth, gang members, rappers and african-american business entrepenuars under one banner. African- American families who attend the gathering will get the benefits and services or volunteer for those services. They also get the opportunity to register to vote. This is only the beginning, we're planning to have an African-American Leadership Conference in the near future.
