Box 7069 San Bernardino, CA 92411 May 7, 1993 (714) 889-6294 Honorable Mayor, Common Council and City Administrator 300 North "D" Street San Bernardino, CA 92411 Dear Mayor, Common Council, City Administrator, and Concerned Staff Members: Please be advised that the I.B.P.O.E. of W. , Pacific States Association Convention will hold its 63rd Annual Convention in the City of San Bernardino, the week of June 20 through June 26, 1993. In 1990, this convention was held here in the City of San Bernar- dino, and a vast majority of the delegates and visitors were so well pleased, that they voted to return the convention to San Bernardino. This is an honor for us to receive the convention twice in three years. This has only been done once prior to coming back to our city. During the convention in 1990, we had in excess of 3,000 dele- gates, members and visitors. This year we anticipate a great increase in attendance, due to the Grand Exalted Ruler, and Grand Daughter Rulers visit to this convention. We anticipate these visitors will increase our attendance in excess of 40%. This increase will assist in boasting our local economy, and will generate sales, tax dollars and bed tax for the City of San Bernardino. There is a list of activities scheduled for the delegates and visitors, such as a parade down "E" Street, a drill team competi- tion, a Beauty and Talent Contest, an Oratorical Contest, two formal Balls, one on Thursday and one on Saturday. These events, especially the parade and drill competition, will bring many spectators to the downtown area. In hopes that you may see the merits of these gala events, we are requesting that a waiver of fees be applied to the parade and the offset will be in sales tax and bed tax hard dollars, but 0 mainly you will be promoting our convention, our friendly city, and showcasing the quality of life here in the Inland Empire, and specifically the City of San Bernardino. Thank you for your past and continuing support of Arrowhead Elks Lodge #896, the host lodge for convention 1993 . A full schedule of events will be sent as soon as we get all confirmations of events. Sincerely, Al nza L. ompson Exalted Ru er
