The board is comprised principally of parents of the program participants. Merri-Mixers offers a social recreation program for adults with developmental disabilities. The program develops creativity, self-esteem, greater independence and an improved sense of well-being. Program activities include crafts, cooking activities and community outings. The age range of participants is 21 to 55. The purpose of the programs is to provide social, recreational and living skills activities. The program has been in existence for approximately 28 years. During his time it has been co-sponsored b the City Parks q P Y Y Recreation and Community Services Department. The Merri-Mixers were instrumental in the development of the C.I.D. (Center for Individuals with Disabilities) . The program has been held at the C.I.D. for the past 12 years, ever since the C.I.D. opened. Previously, the program was funded by County of San Bernardino funds and partially through fees for the program. The County funds were eliminated during the past year. Merri-Mixers have requested that the City sponsor the program. The corporation will be dissolved and board members will serve in an advisory role to the program when the City assumes sponsorship. The program can be adopted by the City at no expense for the first fiscal year and only partial City funding for the second year. Merri-Mixer existing funds will help support the program. The projected cost to the City is: 1st year - no cost; 2nd year - $ 2, 500; 3rd year (& following years) - $ 6,850. On an ongoing basis, the program is partially supported by annual program fees of $ 3,400. 6/28/93 amt 75-0264
