Synopsis of Previous Council action:
March 7, 1988 - Mayor and Council approved schedule of meetings for review of

Recommended motion:
That the General Plan Citizen Advisory Committee's request for additional time
to review the land use alternatives be approved subject to the attached "Exhibit B."

Subject: Request from General Plan Citizen Advisory
Committee
Mayor and Council Meeting of March 21, 1988
At the meeting of March 7 , 1988, the Mayor and Council
approved a schedule of meetings for review of the General
Plan land use alternatives. That schedule, attached as
"Exhibit A: Existing Schedule, " lists March 17 , 1988 as the
date by which the Citizen Advisory Committee (CAC) is to make
its recommendation to the Planning Commission. After three
meetings it became clear that the CAC would need additional
time to review the alternatives and formulate a recommenda-
tion. The CAC is, therefore, requesting the Council to grant
additional time to adequately review all of the material.
Amending the existing schedule to accommodate the CAC ' s
request for additional time will affect the Planning Commis-
sion ' s schedule. The proposed revisions, attached as
"Exhibit B: Proposed Schedule, " give the CAC three extra
meeting dates to reach a recommendation on March 28, 1988.
The Planning Commission would then take four meetings to
reach its decision on April 7 , 1988. These revisions would
not affect the Council 's previously approved review dates.
The proposed schedule would result in a more complete evalu-
ation of the land use alternatives by the CAC and the
Planning Commission while giving the Council sufficient
buffer to adopt a preferred alternative prior to the expira-
tion of the City 's one-year General Plan Extension granted by
the State in June, 1987 .
