Staff Report
Subject:
Authorization to Establish A Four-Way Stop at the Intersection of Lakewood Drive and Sheridan
Road.
Background:
The Traffic Engineering Section received the referenced request from the President of the
neighborhood association of the area covering the referenced intersection. The requestor feels
that traffic safety will be enhanced if a 4-way stop is installed at this intersection.
Traffic Engineering Staff evaluated the request. The intersection is currently controlled by a two-
way stop for north and southbound traffic. There have been two recorded accidents within the
last three recorded years. No recorded accidents have taken place within the last year. The
following are the volumes on the approaches to the intersection:
Northbound 698
Southbound 1,270
Total 1,968
Eastbound 1,245
Westbound 742
Total 1,987
Volume ratio is 1: 1
Intersection meets 82 percent of the "total vehicular volume entering the intersection" part of
the warrant, the other part of the "minimum volumes"warrant is 100 percent met.
Given that the intersection is close to meeting volume warrants for a four-way stop and that the
volume ratio is what is ideally desired at "all-way stop" intersections, staff recommends that a 4-
way stop be installed at the intersection of Lakewood Drive and Sheridan Road.
The Traffic Safety Committee evaluated this request on July 12, 2000, concurred with the
findings of staff, and recommended the installation of a four-way stop at the intersection of
Lakewood Drive and Sheridan Road.
Financial Impact:
The estimated cost of $800.00 for installing the new signs will come from General Fund
Account No. 001-187-5111 (Signing and Striping Materials).
Recommendation:
Adopt Resolution establishing a four-way stop at the intersection of Sheridan Road and
Lakewood Drive.

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN
7 BERNARDINO AS FOLLOWS:
8 SECTION 1: Resolution No. 655, which designates certain streets, or portions

10 thereof, as through highways, Section One, is amended by adding Subsection 15.27 Sheridan
Road to read as follows:
