144 year, the nation's largest single day of volunteering propels 3 million people to touch
the lives of an estimated 30 million people; and
WHEREAS, Make a Difference Day encourages thousands of individual citizens, civic
organizations, religious groups, schools and businesses to reach out and help others on
the nation's largest day of community service; and
WHEREAS, Make a Difference Day began with a simple idea: Put your own cares on
hold for one day to care for someone else, your project can be as large or as small as you
wish, look around your community and see what needs to be done; and
WHEREAS, each year hundreds of good projects,performed on Make a Difference Day,
are selected for honors, headlines and charitable donations. For example, Paul Newman
supports Make a Difference Day by donating all after-tax profits from sales of Newman's
own products to educational and charitable purposes.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, PATRICK J. MORRIS, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF
SAN BERNARDINO, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM OCTOBER 28, 2006 AS
MAKE A DIFFERENCE DAY
and urge all citizens to recognize, and help create action that will change the lives of
many Americans for the better.
