The bridge will separate trains from cars and trucks. • Estimated construction dates: spring 2007- spring 2009 • Approximate cost: $28 million Traffic Relief • Eliminates delays caused by waiting for trains to cross • About 16,700 vehicles travel this intersection each day • Close to 100 trains cross this intersection each day • Provides two travel lanes, a bicycle lane and a sidewalk in each direction, plus a center turn lane • Improves local streets, including; Realignment of North Street and Short Street where they meet at State Street Realignment of the southeast section of Nolan Street e • New traffic signals at the intersection of State Street/Short Street, Cajon Street/Short Street and University Parkway/Interchange Drive Motorist Safety • Provides separate travel routes for trains and motorists, eliminating the possibility of train and vehicle collisions • Establishes short-term street closures and detours during construction • Eliminates five-point intersections at: • Nolan, Short and State • State, Cajon and Kern.
