This has resulted in a ° shortage of personnel to perform maintenance and repair of Fire fleet vehicles, which in turn has created a backlog of needed repairs and a reduction of E Preventative Maintenance of the Fire fleet. Mr Dyke is qualified to be a FEM II, but there are not any positions currently available. The Fire Department recruited a twice for this position and yielded very few qualified applicants. Mr. Dyke was chosen due to his qualifications, but currently earns 20% more than step 1. The fire department would like to hire him at step 12 in an effort to attract and retain this employee.
