Library RES. 2014-350 - Resolution of the Mayor and Common Council of the City of San Bernardino Allocating $140,000 in FY 2014-15 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Funds and Transfer $80,000 from the Library's FY 2013-14 Budget to the FY 2014-15 Budget to Complete the Carpet Installation Project for Feldheym Library. Mayor Davis opened the hearing. Ed Erjavek, Interim Library Director presented a slide show of photos of damaged carpet areas in the Feldheym Library. Pursuant to Resolution 2000-279, City Clerk Hanna administered an oath to those individuals wishing to speak on the matter that they would provide true and honest testimony. Public Comments: Betty Jean Long, San Bernardino, spoke in support of the project. Valerie Lichtman, San Bernardino, spoke in support of the project. Staff Reports There were no staff reports. 8. Public Comments on Items Not on the Agenda to be Heard at 6:30 p.m. Betty Jean Long, San Bernardino, spoke about getting an apartment and getting her life and health back on track. Robert Porter, San Bernardino, asked the City Council not to put a Charter School at Wildwood Park just as a favor to the former Mayor. He urged the Council not to give it away and stated that it was the poor people's park and they need it. Jay Lindberg, San Bernardino, spoke about a plan for prosperity for the City. He stated if we want to bring prosperity back we're going to have to go after the war on drugs and take the money out of that and put it back into education, job training, and alternative employment programs. Mayor and Common Council of the City of San Bernardino Page 8 Printed 9/17/2014 Joint Regular Meeting Minutes September 15, 2014 Shirley Harlan, San Bernardino, spoke about downtown being the main focus of the City of San Bernardino. She said that she hoped that people would look at the City as a whole and not just as piece meal to make a vision for this City. She encouraged the public who live in the City to come out and speak about the issues around the City and not just one area. Barbara Babcock, San Bernardino, spoke about an organization by the name of www.Justserve.org that has 53 links to San Bernardino. She said it was a site that links people together who want to volunteer with non-profits. She stated that there are over 5,000 non-profits in the County of San Bernardino. John Thau, Redlands, wanted to thank everyone for their respect of the senior citizens of the City. He announced that they will be having 2014 Inland Empire Senior Games on October 3, 2014 for people who are 50 plus. He stated that senior citizen centers at Perris Hill and Fifth Street have been ideal in helping out with that group of citizens. He also wanted to thank Parks, Recreation, and Community Services for their support of this event. Al Palazzo, San Bernardino, spoke about commercial development for six major streets in San Bernardino and the potential to revitalize them in a way that they won't compete with one another. Nirav Patel, San Bernardino, informed the Mayor and Common Council that the street lights on "E" Street have been out for the past two months. He stated he came to the last meeting with the same complaint, but the lights still have not been fixed. He owns a 24 hour business and feels that his customers are not safe. He asked when someone would be coming out to take a look at the lights. 9. Items to be Referred to Council Committees Council Member Nickel: Place agenda presentation of ECivics Grants Network on Grants Ad Hoc Committee Agenda; and discuss the creation of a citywide charitable foundation to receive grant funding. 10. Adjournment At 6:05 p.m. the meeting adjourned to 5:00 p.m., Monday, September 29, 2014, in the Council Chamber of City Hall.
