BACKGROUND Effective January 1, 2001, the minimum wage will increase from $5.75 to $6.25 per hour. Resolution 6413, Section Thirteen, is being amended to reflect the new minimum wage increases for affected positions. Those positions are: Crossing Guard Food Service Delivery Person Food Service Worker I Groundsworker Intern Kitchen Helper Custodial Aide Library Page Recreation Aide Recreation Leader Senior Recreation Leader In addition to these positions, the City will have to increase the salaries for those positions with steps that are tied to the minimum wage to avoid compaction. A second increase schedule for January 1, 2002 will raise the minimum wage from $6.25 to $6.75 and will require further wage adjustments to all part-time position at that time. FINANCIAL IMPACT The financial impact for these minimum wage increases is $27,000 ($11,000 — Crossing Guards; $7,000 -- Park & Recreation; and, $9,000 -- Library). The cost for these increases was not included in department budgets and it is anticipated that the departments can absorb some of the cost. Staff recommends reviewing the impact of the minimum wage increase at mid-year to determine the need for budget adjustments. RECOMMENDATION Adopt resolution.
