Randall Avenue to 300 feet north, " be approved.

STAFF REPORT
An elemenary school has recently been completed on the southwest
corner of Eucalyptus Avenue and Randall Avenue. Construction is
presently underway on a junior high school at the southeast
corner of this intersection, and is scheduled for completion in
September, 1998 .
A meeting was held with representatives- of the Rialto School
District on 11-21-97, to discuss their concerns over the safety
of school children. One concern voiced was the absence of side-
walk along the west side of Eucalyptus Avenue, from Randall
Avenue to a point about 300 feet to the north. The other con-
cern was that the junior high school students living to the east
of Pepper Avenue will have to cross this major thoroughfare on
their way to and from school.
We will present this item to the Traffic Safety Committee for
their review and recommendation. A part of this effort will be
to work with the Rialto School District and City of Colton to
have traffic signals installed at the intersection of Pepper
Avenue and Randall Avenue, by the time the school is opened in
September, 1998 .
The estimate of cost for installing the missing curb and gutter,
sidewalk and fill-in paving, on Eucalyptus Avenue is $17,250. 00 .
We recommend that the transfer of $17 ,250 . 00 be approved to
finance the cost for these improvements.
