authorization granted to advertise for bids ,
11-17-97 - All bids received on 10-28-97 , for installation of
cross gutters , rejected.

Recommended motion:
That the plans for repair of failed concrete box culverts , at vari-
ous locations, in accordance with Plan No. 9724 ; and the plans for
installation of cross gutters on 16th Street at "E" Street and
Arrowhead Avenue, in accordance with Plan No. 9725 , be approved;
and the Director of Public Works/City Engineer be authorized to
advertise for bids .

CITY OF SAID BERNARDINO - REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
STAFF REPORT
Bids for the repair of failed box culverts and installation of
cross gutters have been prepared and the project is ready to be
advertised for bids. The project consists, in general, of
removing and replacing failed sections of concrete box culverts
at the following intersections:
Highland Avenue at "D" Street, "E" Street, "G" Street and
"H" Street; Base Line Street and Waterman Avenue; Arrowhead
Avenue and Third Street, and Lugo Avenue and 21st Street.
Two bids were received on 10-28-97 , for . installation of cross
gutters on 16th Street, at "E" Street and Arrowhead Avenue.
These bids were rejected on 11-17-97 , since the low bid was
considerably in excess of the Engineer' s Estimate. The installa-
tion of cross gutters will be incorporated into the bid documents
for repair of failed box culverts, in order to take advantage of
economies of scale .
Below is an estimate of the total project cost:

An amount of $60 , 000 has been allocated, under Account No. 248-
368-5504-7111 , for repair of failed box culverts; and $15, 000 ,
under Account No. 248-368-5504-7112 , for installation of cross
gutters.
We recommend that the plans be approved and authorization granted
to advertise for bids .
