STAFF REPORT
Bids for this project were received and opened on October 28 ,
1997 , at 2 : 00 p.m. A total of 2 bids were received, ranging from
$28 ,572 . 00 to $29 ,946 . 00 . The low bid is 131 . 65% over the Engi--
neer' s Estimate of $12 , 334 . 00 .
Staff contacted other contractors that took plans, but did not
offer bids. Even though this project was considered a small job,
there was little or no interest in this work as there were plenty
of other projects bidding at that time. Furthermore, because of
its size and traffic control concerns, bid prices were higher
than similar work on larger projects .
Funding for the cost of this project is in Account No. 248-368-
5504-7112 in a total amount of $15 , 000 . 00 .
Staff is presently working on a similar project that will be
ready to bid in the very near future. It is proposed that this
project and the new one be combined to generate sufficient
interest to the contractors and that the current project be
reviewed for additional cost savings in the construction in order
to fall within the funding established.
Staff recommends the rejection of all bids for this project.
