Background The tennis courts at SBIA were acquired in 1994 as a public benefit transfer from the United States Government for recreation purposes. There are four asphalt courts and two concrete courts. Currently, the department has $20,000 in account No. 243-363-5504-7179 for resurfacing/renovation of the tennis courts at SBIA. However, during the recent solicitation of bid proposals for this project, it was determined that the structural cracks in the four asphalt courts were too large to be adequately repaired through the standard resurfacing process. The appropriate method of repair would be to overlay these courts with a new layer of asphalt. This type of resurfacing will cost an additional $30,000, bringing the total project to $50,000. In their current condition these courts are not playable and are potentially unsafe. The asphalt overlay will remedy these problems and help the city meet the public demand for safe, playable tennis courts and relieve the crowding at Perris Hill and Blair Parks. These Tennis courts are in demand around the clock, as they are lighted. Having the ones at Norton in playable condition will provide 6 courts for individual and tournament use. Financial Impact Funds for this project will come from the undesignated Park Construction Fund balance, which is projected to be $34,600 for 1999-2000. There will be no impact to the General Fund budget with the approval of this budget amendment. Recommendation Authorize the Director of Finance to transfer $30,000 from the undesignated Park Construction Fund balance to the Galaxy/Norton Gym Resurface/Renovate Tennis Courts Account Number: 243-363- 5504-7179 for a total project amount of $50,000 so that the additional resurfacing work may be accomplished. 12/27/99 dlb STAFF REPORT Park Construct Incream
