Backeround• The Public Services Department submitted an application for CDBG funds to repair broken and damaged sidewalks, curbs and gutters throughout the City. The damage, which has been caused by the age of the work, tree roots, construction activities and other factors, overall impairs the ability to use the sidewalks and streets safely. The application was approved and an MOU was prepared with a funding amount of $100,000.00. The first scheduled area is Attachment 1; other eligible areas are to be identified by Public Services. Public Services requested preparation of specifications and bid documents for this work to be done by outside contractors and the Department of Development Services has prepared the documents. Contained within the documents is a listing of priority locations that meet the criteria of the CDBG funding source. Public Services is working on additional locations for possible inclusion in the event the bid prices allow additional work. The work is basically the removal and replacement of damaged sidewalk and curb/gutter, however, in those instances where the damage is at an intersection the work will also include the construction of disabled access ramps if they do not presently exist. Currently, 147 locations have been identified and are included in the specification package. In past projects of similar work, Development Services has provided the inspection services and contract administration for the Public Services Department. Complete sets of the specifications and locations are located in the Development Services Department for review. Listed below is the estimated cost for the construction: Construction Contract $82,462 Engineering/Inspection $ 8,246 Subtotal $90308 Contingencies (10%) $ 9,292 TOTAL $100,000 Financial Impact: Funding for this contract extension is contained in the adopted budget under account 001-181-5952-5043, which is 100%, funded by CDBG Activity Number 98-221 in an amount of$100,000.00.
