Backl!round: The Traffic Engineering Section received a request from a citizen to evaluate traffic safety concerns on Jefferson Street between "I" Street and the 1-215 Freeway off-ramp. Jefferson Street branches off from the Inland Center Drive off-ramp of the southbound 1-215 Freeway. One of the primary concerns expressed by the requestor dealt with parking in this area. The requestor feels that vehicles, especially trucks, are parking too close to the freeway off-ramp creating an unsafe situation as motorists exit the freeway. Staff evaluated the situation and concurs with the requestor. Trucks have been observed parked along the north side of Jefferson Street just west of the freeway off-ramp creating an unsafe situation. Due to the sharp radius of the off-ramp, motorists exiting the freeway at this point are unable to see the parked vehicles until they are very close to them. To resolve this condition, staff recommends that parking be prohibited on the north side of Jefferson Street for approximately one hundred (100) feet west of the freeway off-ramp. The Traffic Safety Committee evaluated this issue at their October II, 2000 meeting. The Committee concurred with the findings and recommendations made by staff and recommended that the "No Parking" zone be approved. Financial ImDact: The estimated cost of $300.00 for installing the "No Parking" zone will corne from General Fund Account No. 001-187-5111 (Signing and Striping Materials). Recommendation: Adopt Resolution establishing a "No Parking Any Time" zone on the north side of Jefferson Street between the 1-215 Freeway off-ramp and one-hundred (100) feet west of the 1-215 Freeway off-ramp.
