Synopsis of Previous Council action:
Adoption of Resolution no. 88-366 on September 19, 1988, amending resolution
no. 6429, section 3.
Recommended motion:
That the salaries for poli.ce Department Ranges. P..l, P-2 and P-3 be established
as outlined in the staff report effect;:ve August 1, 1989, and direct the
Director of Personnel to prepare an amendment to Resolution no. 6429.

STAFF REPORT
section 186 of the City Charter establishes a formula for
setting salaries for local safety members effective each
August 1. City staff has reached agreement with representa-
tives of tha San Bernardino Police Officers' Association on
the 10 cities whose salaries will be averaged to determine
this year's P-1, P-2 and P-3 salaries for the Police Depart-
ment. Those cities are:
Hayward Riverside
Huntington Beach Santa Clarita
Modesto Santa Rosa
Orange Stockton
Oxnard Torrance
The new monthly salary ranges, effective August 1, 1989, are:

The increase in step "e" for each range from 1988 is as

Adding an additional 34% to reflect additional fringe benefit
costs which rise with salary, the total added cost for
salaries and fringe benefits is $790,600.
staff is meeting with Police and Fire Management as well as
Firefighter Union representatives and will bring those
salaries to you for approval when agreement has been reached.
