Descri tioD Relief Sewer Council Notes: --~----------~-- Agenda I tern No. c::2.8 75-0262 CITY OF SAN BERtt",RDINO - REQUEST "'~R COUNCIL ACTION STAFF REPORT During construction, an unknown underground waterline and a sewer lateral were encountered during the pipe jacking operation. The water line was repaired and protected for a cost of $658.03. The bootleg sewer lateral flooded the Contractor's operation resulting in the loss of one day's production, totaling $6,114.56 in costs. Addi tionally, the native material used for backfilling the trench in Mill Street was deemed unsuitable, due to the Contractor being unable to obtain specified compaction. Our soil consultant was unable to determine the unsuitability prior to the Contractor's efforts to obtain compaction. Al though the Contractor sustained substantial additional costs, we have determined that $ 5,790 was beyond his contractual obligation. Change Order No. Four will authorize the Contractor to perform these items of extra work, at a net increase in the contract cost of $12,562.59. The total project budget included an amount of $69,509 for contingencies, which can be used to finance the additional costs for the change orders. The work was satisfactorily completed as of 6-14-89. The contract was awarded for the low bid price of $434,091.00. Change Orders One through Four authorized a net increase in the contract price of $15,470.07 to $449,561.07. The actual final contract price is $ 451,030.68, due to some variations in the actual final quantities from the estimated quantities. We recommend that the work be approved and accepted, and that final payment be authorized.
