1. PROPOSED HARRISON CANYON FREEWAY - Considerable dis-
cussion took place regarding traffic, noise, speed, enforce-
ment methods, restriction of truck traffic, etc. The deter-
mination was made by the Committee to have Mr. Wes McDaniel
from SANBAG to coordinate technical, political and community
resources and return to the committee with short and long-
term plans delineating the parameters required by each. The
City Attorney representative was to do some research and
provide a draft ordinance of possible truck restrictions on
Waterman Avenue.
2. & 4. PROPOSED OMNITRANS TRANSIT MALL/DOWNTOWN BUS
TERMINAL - The Committee was supportive of the recommendation
submitted by Omnitrans and Main Street and asked that the
plan be submitted to the full Council. The Parking Place
Commission has gone on record supporting the plan.
3. PROPOSED HALF-CENT TRANSPORTATION SALES TAX - Mr.
Wes McDaniel, SANBAG, briefed the Committee on the upcoming
ballot issue. Stated that polls show 10 point higher support
for this measure than before. Asked that everyone be suppor-
tive of this measure and educate the public on the benefits
of approving the measure. The Committee requested staff to
extract City of San Bernardino benefits and information from
the SANBAG handout. Council staff will furnish this informa-
tion within a few days.
5. DOWNTOWN PARKING NEEDS - Item continued.
6. SAN BERNARDINO TO LOS ANGELES COMMUTER RAIL SERVICE
The Committee, at the recommendation of SANBAG representa-
tives, requested Council staff to set up a noon meeting as
soon as possible for a briefing on this subject. The meeting
was scheduled for Monday, September 18, 1989.
