ST AFF REPORT
Subject:
Authorization to implement a "No Parking Any Time" zone on the west side of Sierra Way
between Baseline Street and 325 feet north of Baseline Street.
Background:
Residents of the apartment buildings located at 1218 through 1232 N. Sierra Way have expressed
concern over the drug dealing activities occurring in front of their buildings. Police and Traffic
Engineering stafT met with the apartment managers to discuss ways to address the problem. The
consensus among thosc in attendance was to install a "No Parking" zone in front of the
apartment buildings.
The apartment buildings are located on the west side of Sierra Way, approximately 165 feet
north of Baseline Street and extend north. A "No Parking" zone is already established on Sierra
Way for the first one hundred feet north of Baseline Street followed by a driveway approach.
The gap between the existing and proposed No Parking zones is only 35 feet, therefore, staff is
recommending a No Parking Zone from the northwest comer of Baseline Street and Sierra Way
to the end of the apartment buildings. The only affected business owner is a check cashing
business. Traffic Engineering Staff spoke to the owner of this business and the owner did not
object to the establishment of a ""No Parking" zone within this area.
In view of the demonstrated support for the proposed "No Parking" zone, staff recommends that
the attached resolution be approved authorizing the establishment of the proposed "No Parking"
zonc on the west side of Sierra Way between Baseline Street and 325 feet north of Baseline
Street. Staff estimates 3 signs at $250.00 each will be required.
Financial Impact:
The estimated cost of $ 750.00 for installing the "No Parking" signs will come from Account No.
001-402-5111 (Street Maintenance).
Recommendation:
Adopt Resolution.

4 ESTABLISH A NO PARKING ANY TIME ZONE ON THE WEST SIDE OF SIERRA
WAY BETWEEN BASE LINE STREET AND THREE HUNDRED TWENTY-FIVE
5 FEET NORTH OF BASE LINE STREET.
6 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN
BERNARDINO AS FOLLOWS:

SECTION I: For the purpose of establishing a No Parking Any Time Zone
9 pursuant to San Bernardino Municipal Code Section 10.16.020, on the west side of Sierra Way
10 between the north line of Base Line Street and 325 feet north of the north line of Base Line
11 Street, Resolution No. 3985, which prohibits parking upon certain designated streets or portions

thereof, Section One, Subsection 27.3 (Sierra Way) is amended by adding the following
