Backl!:round: As part of the City Maoager's Office budget reductions for 2008/09, the department held vacaot the Executive Assistaot to the City Manager position as of Jaouary 1, 2009 following the anticipated retirement of Marilyn Dixon in December. Subsequent to that decision, former City Maoager Fred Wilson accepted a City Administrator position with the City of Huntington Beach, leaving the City of Sao Bernardino. In October, the Mayor aod Common Council approved an Employment Agreement with Mark Weinberg to serve as Interim City Maoager during the recruitment for a permanent City Manager. Recruitment is expected to close in Jaouary, and it is aoticipated that the position will be filled in the spring. As stated, the current Executive Assistaot to the City Manager will be retiring in December of this year. Although the position has not been budgeted after Jaouary 2009, the Interim City Maoager has requested that the Executive Assistant position continue aod Ms. Dixon remain on staff, part time, through the duration of his tenure with the City, as well as to assist with the traosition to the new City Maoager. Appreciating that this position has been essential in assisting with the recent changeover, the Mayor has agreed to support this proposal by providing funds from the Mayor's Office budget for this position from Jaouary I - June 30, 2009. Financial impact: There is currently $3,000 budgeted for FY 2008/09 for temporary/part time salaries in the City Maoager's Office budget. By transferring funds from Account No. 001-011-5502 to Account No. 001-101-5014, there will be sufficient funds to pay the part time salary of the Executive Assistaot to the City Maoager through FY 2008/09. Recommendation: Authorize the Director of Finance to amend the FY 2008/09 Budget by transferring $35,000 from Account No. 001-011-5502 Professional/Contractual Services to Account No. 001-101- 5014 Salaries Temp/Part time.
