DESCRIPTION) Finance: Council Notes: 75.0262 Agenda Item No. -I CI\ ~' OF SAN BERNARDI. _0 - REQUE T FOR COUNCIL AC., ON STAFF REPORT Laurdie Aldern, Director of Sales for the Maruko Hotel/Con- vention Center, has requested city effort to obtain a convention in Obedience Dog Show". assistance 1990 for in the their bid "Pacific Support required would be the utilization of the 4th level of the parking structure for 4 - 40 X 50 show rings for July 20 thru July 22, 1990, which is a Friday, Saturday and Sunday and would take up two major isles, approximately half way on the 4th level, and they would be responsible for set up, clean up, and security of this area. They have estimated that this would result in 300 room nights for the Hotel and would bring an approximate $1,500 in transit occupancy tax over the four day period. The show would attract several hundred spectators that would patronize the downtown merchants during this event which would also increase our sales tax revenue. As you are aware, July is usually a slow month in the down- town area, due to vacations, etc., and we do not believe this would impose any major impact for these three days. Friday would be the only day, if any. However, the year 1990 is unpredictable at this time. The 4th level of the 5 level parking structure has a total of 318 parking spaces of which Vanir Development Corp. has 100 leased on the northeast area of the 4th floor. The remaining spaces are utilized by City Hall employees and the general public. This would not require a reassignment of any spaces presently leased during this three day period. In discussion with Vanir Corp., they see no problem. The area in which the Hotel would set up their show ring would only take up approximately 50 parking spaces. At present this floor is approximately 60% utilized. We would recommend the approval of their utilization of area, providing they providing appropriate insurance and a $500 cash bond to cover any cost incurred by the City clean up and/or repair of the facility. (See attached request) this post for 75-0264 -i MAQUKO IIOTFI <\ CnN\'E:\TIO" cr NT[ ~ August 2, 1988 Mr. Wayne Overstreet, Superintendent City of San Bernardino Public Buildings/Security & Parking Control Division - Basement 300 North "D" Street San Bernardino, CA 92418 Dear Wayne, The Maruko Hotel is in the process of bidding on a 1990 Pacific Obedience Dog Show, and we would like to request the city's assistance in securing the fourth level of the adjacent parking garage for show rings. The show rings need to be 40' X 50', and four of these are required. The dates of use would be Friday July 20, Saturday July 21, and Sunday July 22. Our client accepts responsibility for set up, security, and cleanup. This particular dog show would result in 300 room nights for the Maruko, and would bring in approximately $1500 in Transient Occupancy Tax over a four day period. Additionally, the shows attract several hundred spectators who would patronize downtown merchants during the event, also resulting in increased tax receipts. As you know, July in San Bernardino can be a typically slow business month due to vacations and inclimate weather. We would indeed be fortunate to book this piece of business which would benefit not only the Maruko but many other businesses as well. Any assistance you can provide on securing the fourth level of the garage will be greatly appreciated.
