Description: Street Maintenance Council Notes: Finance: As., zoo'?' 4/7 Agenda Item No.-.13 /t- ,-OB CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO - REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION STAFF REPORT Subject: Authorization to establish a two-way stop at the intersection of Hill Drive and Leroy Street, and to declare Leroy Street a through highway between Sierra Way and Hill Drive. Background: The City has received complaints from motorists that travel the section of Leroy Street between Sierra Way and Hill Drive. The main concern is that the intersections within this area of Leroy Street are currently uncontrolled. The complainants feel that safety would be improved if stop signs were installed. The Traffic Engineering section of the Development Services Department evaluated four intersections in this area, Leroy Street at 50th Street, Leroy Street at 51st Street, Leroy Street at 520d Street, and Leroy Street at Hill Drive. The evaluation indicated that installation of stop signs on the approaches to Leroy Street at these intersections would enhance traffic operation and safety by positively establishing vehicular right-of-way. It is recommended that stop controls be installed on Leroy Street at Hill Drive. Staff therefore recommends that stop signs be installed on 50th, 51st, and 520d Street at their approaches to Leroy Street. It is further recommended that a 2-way stop be installed for north and southbound traffic on Leroy Street at the intersection with Hill Drive. Financial Impact: The estimated cost of $1,500 for installing the new stop signs will come from Account No. 001- 402-5111 (Street Maintenance). Recommendation: Adopt Resolution.
