The first one was the removal of the main line rail by Santa Fe, and replacement at a 0.3 foot higher elevation. This change in elevation increased the quantity of asphalt concrete pavement that will be needed. In addition, the Redevelopment Agency agreed for the spur line track to be removed. This necessitated more pavement removal and replacement. The standard specifications state that the owner can change the quantities up to 25% of those listed in the contract documents. Quantities of the 3 following bid items will be affected: Required Item No. Description Bid Quantity Quantity % Change 3 Aggregate Base 130 Tons 275 Tons 111.5 4 Asphalt Concrete 230 Tons 303 Tons 31.7 5 P.C.C. Curb & Gutter 13 Cu. Yd. 14 Cu.Yd. 7.7 The Contractor has submitted a proposal, by letter dated 8-15-88, to adjust the contract unit price for aggregate base from $46.00jton to $25.00, for the estimated quantity of 145 tons over the bid quantities. Also, to reduce the contract unit price for P.C.C. curb and gutter from $420.00 to $250.00 for the estimated 1 cubic yard over the bid quantity. No change is proposed for asphalt concrete. The estimated increase in cost for the addi- tional quantities is $7.744.00, as shown on Contract Change Order No. One. Listed below is an estimate of the total project cost, based upon the actual low bid price: Construction Contract - Bid Quantities Contract Change Order No. 1 Sub-Total Engineering & Inspection (W.O. #1828 ) Sub-Total Contingencies (15%)I TOTAL ESTIMATED PROJECT COST 8-17-88 75.0264 $ 49,870 7,744 $ 57,614 6,900 $ 64,514 9,486 $ 74,000 CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO - REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTIO~ STAFF REPORT PiJge 2 of 2 One-half of the total project cost will be financed by the County, in accorcance with our cooperative agreement. The City s share of the total estimated project cost is $37,000. An amount of $50,000 was allocated in the 1988/89 Street Construction Fund Budget, under Account No. 242-362-57363, 25 supplemental funding for this project. The additional $24,000 needed to fully finance the total estimated project cost will b~ advanced from the $292,000 budgeted under Account No. 242-362-57671 for improvement of traffic signals on 9th Street, from "H" Street to Sierra Way. These funds will be replaced upon receipt of the County's share. This project has increased in cost over the original esti- mate for a variety of reasons. In addition to the extra work necessitated by Santa Fe, the project includes traffic signal loops at Gould Street and Victoria Avenue, and traffic striping between these intersections. If these items of work were not included in the contract, they would have to be done by City Forces. Therefore, we recommend that a contract be awarded to the low bidder. 8-17-88 75-02(,4 , I' ~ \ € I tG I I I I .J a ......:. \,; ~i~ ~ ~ ~ I~~y~ f" I ~ i ...,. ~ C ~ lD ~r- ... a ~ .....
