SAN BERNARDINO - REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION STAFF REPORT On 12-17-84, Resolution No. 84-540 was adopted, approving the final map for Tract 11118, which dedicated to the City, a new alignment for Meyers Road, indicating the old Meyers Road would be vacated by a separate document after the new Meyers was constructed. Old Meyers Road was temporarily closed to vehicular traffic, and not been reopened since. No. that Road has On 12-21-87, a petition for the reopening of old Meyers Road was referred to Traffic Safety Advisory Committee for review and recommendation, and on 03-07-88, Committee recommended that the old Meyers Road not be reopened. the the On 04-04-88, the City Engineer and the City Clerk were authorized to proceed with proposed vacation of the old Meyers Road , and Plan No. 7090, was approved. the On 07-18-88, a finding was made that the proposed vacation was needed for health safety reasons. and On 09-19-88, Resolution of Intention No. 88-373 was adopted, setting a public hearing date for October 17, 1988, relative to the proposed vacation. There appears to be no further necessity for a portion of Meyers Road, West of Little League Drive, either for present or future street purposes. Staff recommend the vacation on the basis of the following Findings of Fact: 1. The above portion of the street has been determined by the Department of Public Works to be of no further necessity to the general public: a) Findings of need for health and safety were made and a Negative Declaration was adopted. b) The alignment of old Meyers Road is not in accordance with current standards and bringing it to an acceptable level would be very expensive. The road, as it currently exists, is a narrow and winding road. Substantial deterioration of the asphalt was noted in numerous places, particularly in an area where a natural creek crosses the road. Both sides of the road are overgrown with brush. limiting the driveable width of the road to 12 to 15 feet. c) By virtue of the posting and publication of the proposal, neither this office nor the City Clerk's office has received any written protests against the vacation as of this date. 2. All of the interested City Departments and utility Companies were notified of the proposal and all have had the opportunity to respond. No objections were received relative to the proposed vacation and no reservations of easements were requested. It is recommended that the hearing be closed, the findings set forth herein be and that the attached resolution ordering the vacation of a portion of Meyers West of Little League Drive be adopted. made, Road 75-0264 l - ~/ .},4' ,';;,1;; '7 t'o~. s".' ,dl' .,....... ... ,,~1~.. ,1-!
