STAFF REPORT
The relays controlling the three (3) elevators in City Hall
are the 0 rig i n a 1 0 n est h at were ins tall e d when the b u il din g was
constructed, way back in the early 1970 IS. These control uni ts
have become unre1 i ab1 e due to the 1 ength of usage and repeated
maintenance efforts.
Maintenance of these elevators is provided by the Amtech
Reliable Elevator Company, under a full service a g r e e men tw i t h
the City. The term of this agreement is for five (5) years,
commencing on 1-1-85. A proposal, dated 9-1-88, has been
submitted by this company to furnish and install new relays, at a
price of $8,838.00 for each elevator.
These new relays will be state-of-the-art, encapsulated
units, with gold overlay bifurcated contacts. They will be less
subject to dust and dirt than the present open type units. A
guarantee will be provided to cover the units for a period of one
year.
The attached resolution amends the Agreement to increase
the compensation by $26,514.00, to cover the cost quoted in the
proposal, dated 9-1-88, to furnish and install new relay control
units for the three (3) elevators in City Hall.
A Budget Transfer has been prepared to allocate funds to
cover the cost for this extraordinary maintenance work. The
funds will be taken from the savings accrued for electrical
energy charges for street 1 i ghts, due to conservati on efforts
being more successful than anticipated.
We have checked with other elevator maintenance companies
and have verified that the quoted prices are comparable with the
current pricing levels in the industry.
We recommend that the contract with Amtech Reliable
Elevator Company be amended to increase the compensation.

2 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO AMENDING THE
AGREEMENT WITH AMTECH RELIABLE ELEVATOR COMPANY TO INCREASE THE
3 COMPENSATION BY $26,514.00 FOR FURNISHING AND INSTALLING NEW
RELAYS IN THE THREE ELEVATORS IN CITY HALL.

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY
5 OF SAN BERNARDINO AS FOLLOWS:

SECTION 1:
Pursuant to Paragraph 10 of the full service
7 maintenance agreement with AMTECH RELIABLE ELEVATOR COMPANY, that
8 ag~eement is hereby amended by adding Paragraph 1(b)(5) to add
10 dated September 1, 1988, and amending Paragraph 5, to increase:
9 the description of additional services set forth in the proposal

11 the stipulated compensation by the amount of $26,514.00, to
12 finance the cost of furnishing and installing new encapsulatec'
13 relays in the three (3) elevators in City Hall, in accordance
14 with the terms of the proposal dated 9-1-88. All other terms of
16
15 the agreement shall remain as previously approved.
SECTION 2:
The Mayor of the City of San Bernardino is
17 hereby authorized and directed to execute said Proposal on behalf
18 of the City; a copy of which is attached hereto, marked Exhibit
