Synopsis of Previous Council action:
September 23, 1985: Approved Resolution 85-376 for application of 1984 State Park Bond
Act funds for rehabilitation of Hillcrest Park.
November 3, 1986: Approved Resolution 86-448 for Application of 1986 State Bond Act
funds which included the use of $36,270 of Park Bond Act funds for
assisting in the development of Patton Park.
July 18, 1988: Approved $45,000 in Park Construction Fund Budget for use in
rehabilitation of Hillcrest Park.
October 24, 1988: Approved change of Park name from Hillcrest to Melissa and Bradley
Newberry Memorial Park.
November 21. 1988: Approved Award of Construction Contract for Development of the Park.
Recommended motion:
That $15,000 from Fifth Ward Park Extension Funds for the purchase and installation of
play equipment at the Me1issa and Bradley Newberry Memorial Park, be approved.

AT THE MELISSA AND BRADLEY NEWBERRY
MEMORIAL PARK
STAFF REPORT
Plans and Construction Contracts have been approved for the Newberry Park Development
project. There are sufficient funds for construction; however, there is not enough
to purchase and install tot lot equipment in the sand play lot which will be constructed
on the park.
Staff have met with representatives of the neighborhood and reviewed the type of
equipment most suitable for the tot lot and have agreed on equipment which should not
exceed $15,000 for purchase and installation.
The addition of the play equipment will add the finishing touch to make the park a
functioning and enjoyable park for the entire family and will provide a safe and
enjoyable play area for the children of the neighborhood.
This request has been coordinated with Councilman Minor of the 5th Ward.
Approval of this expenditure' is recommended by staff and neighborhood
representatives.
