STAFF REPORT
Subject: General Plan Calendar
Mayor and Council Agenda of December 5, 1988
On November 21, 1988 the council considered a calendar list
of key milestone dates for completion of the General Plan
program. At that time, the City Attorney expressed concerns
regarding the relatively short time period in which the Mayor
and Council were to review and adopt the new General Plan.
The staff was directed to revise the calendar and submit it
to the General Plan Task Force for review and recommendation.
Staff has revised the calendar to increase the amount of time
available to the Mayor and Council to review and adopt the
plan. The four and one-half week time period has now been
increased to seven and one-half weeks. To do this, staff and
the Task Force are proposing an increase in the number of
public meetings and workshops to be held by the citizen
Advisory Committee (CAC), the Planning Commission and the
Mayor and Council between December, 1988 and March, 1989. The
three bodies are also encouraged to hold joint meetings to
increase communication between each other and to help avoid
duplication of public input.
Recommendation:
Staff recommends that the Mayor and Council adopt the
attached calendar for completion of the General Plan revision
program.

Mayor and council Meeting of November 21, 1988
REOUEST
The attached calendar lists key milestone dates which must be
met in order to complete and adopt the revised General Plan.
It has been presented to, and endorsed by, the citizen
Advisory Committee and the Planning Commission. Both bodies
discussed, and are familiar with, the intense schedule of
meetings to which it commits them.
RECOMMENDATION
staff recommends that the
