ADOPTING THE FINAL BUDGET OF SAID CITY FOR THE FISCAL YEAR 198~-

5 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE
6 CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO AS FOLLOWS:

SECTION 1.
That certain document entitled "Final Budget,
8 City of San Bernardino Fiscal Year 1988-1989" on file in the
9 office of the City Clerk is hereby approved and adopted as the
10 final budget of said City for the 1988-1989 fiscal year effective
11 July 1, 1988.

PRESS RELEASE
On July 18, 1988, the City of San Bernardino adopted the FY
1988-89 Budget totaling $79,289,797, with a General Fund
total of $56,049,770.
Since 1982-83, the city's budget has increased by 59%. The
budget for the City's largest department, the Police Depart-
ment has experienced a 75% increase over the same period.
In this six year period, since 1982-83, the number of
ployees in the Police Department has increased by 42%.

In FY 1987-88, all City departments were requested to not
fill certain vacant positions in order to help balance the
budget. The number of sworn positions which were vacant in
the Police Department, as part of this budget control effort,
was 15 for FY 87-88. In the FY 88-89 budget, there will be
an increase of 5 Police Officers. This increases the number
of sworn positions for patrol activities and represents the
largest commitment by the Mayor and Common Council of offi-
cers and dollars to Police Services in the City's history.
