HomeMy WebLinkAboutProclamation Thirty Eight Anniversary of Civil Right Act WHEREAS, fair housing is a right emphasized by the US Congress beginning with the Civil Rights Act of 1968 and 2006 marks the thirty-eighth anniversary of the Civil Rights Act; and WHEREAS, the Fair Housing Act and its Amendments of 1988 prohibit discrimination in housing because of race, color, religion, sex, age, handicap, familial status, national origin or personal traits, beliefs or characteristics that are unrelated to rental or sales of property; and WHEREAS, the City of San Bernardino has participated in the federal Community Development Block Grant Program and has made a commitment to equal housing opportunity as a condition of life in our community that can and should be achieved; and WHEREAS, as part of its Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program, the City of San Bernardino through its partnership with Inland Fair Housing and Mediation Board assesses fair housing needs in the community, conducts fair housing workshops and promotes fair and equal access to rental and sales and lending in housing. NOW, THEREFORE, I PATRICK J. MORRIS, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO AND COMMON COUNCIL DO HEREBY PROCLAIM THE MONTH OF APRIL 2006, AS "FAIR HOUSING MONTH" the City of San Bernardino recognizes the efforts by the housing industry associations and nonprofit agencies, including the Inland Fair Housing and Mediation Board to further fair housing in our community.
