Resolution No. 86-162 approved awarding contract to Signal Construction Co. for the low bid of $61,903.00. The street lights were to be connected to the existing 240 volt series street light circuit. During construction, street improvements were constructed on 6th Street by the developer of the adjacent property to the west, which necessitated rerouting the series street lighting circuits, and installing a 240 volt circuit. The Contractor agreed to install 240 volt luminaires at no extra charge to the City. The 240 volt luminaires are more efficient and in accordance with current City policy. Additional wiring and conduit are required to connect the street lights to the new 240 volt circuit. The Contractor submitted a price quote of $500.00 for this extra work. We have reviewed this price and found it to be fair and reasonable. This change order will have to be paid entirely with City funds, since the work is not eligible for Federal-Aid Funds. This determination is due to the extra work being necessitated by improvements installed by a developer and City's desire to change the voltage of the street light circuit. The cost of this change order is $500.00, which will increase the contract price from $64,703.00 to $65,203.00.
