OF SAN BERNARDI'" ) - REQUEr T FOR COUNCIL AC't .oN STAFF REPORT The Ventura Gulls "A" Division Minor League Baseball team has recently been acquired by the Mark Harmon Group who has expressed an interest to relocate the team from Ventura to San Bernardino. The team owners of the California League in which the Gulls compete has endorsed the relocation. City repre- sentatives will enter into negotiations regarding a lease arrangement for the use of Fiscalini Field at Perris Hill Park. This resolution will support and reinforce the city's interest in acquiring a minor league baseball team to play in the City. 75-0264 . 1 RESOLUTION NO. 2 RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO IN SUPPORT OF THE RELOCATION OF THE VENTURA GULLS "A" 3 DIVISION MINOR LEAGUE BASEBALL TEAM TO THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO. 4 WHEREAS, baseball is recognized as the All American sport and 5 San Bernardino is a "baseball community" with 18 youth baseball 6 organizations and serves as host site for the annual Western 7 Regional Little League Tournament; and 8 WHEREAS, California League has expressed an interest in 9 relocating the Ventura Gulls Minor League Baseball team to San 10 Bernardino; and 11 WHEREAS, Minor League Baseball can serve as a resource for 12 recreational amusement as well as a demonstration of 13 sportsmanship, fair play and healthy competition; and 14 WHEREAS, a minor league team will serve as public relations 15 ambassadors throughout the state and will be an economic benefit 16 to the community; and 17 WHEREAS, minor league baseball players will not only serve as 18 role models for local youth but will also directly assist in a 19 variety of community services such as sports clinics and drug 20 prevention programs, 21 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COMMON 22 COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO that they support and 23 endorse the entering into negotiations with the Mark Harmon Group 24 and California League to relocate the Ventura Gulls "An Division 25 Minor League Baseball team to San Bernardino. 26 I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing resolution was duly 27 adopted by the Mayor and Common Council of the City of San 28 Bernardino at a meeting thereof, held on 1 the , 1986, by the following vote, day of 2 to wit: 3 4 Council Members AYES: 5 NAYS: 6 ABSENT: 7 8 9 City Clerk The foregoing resolution is hereby approved this day 10 of , 1986. 11 12 Mayor of the City of San Bernardino 13 Approved as to form: ~ '~;(UJprJ~ 15 City Kttorney 14 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 -2-
