The comments from this review indicated that rock slope protection should be provi ded for a di stance of about 200 feet, both upstream and downstream of the structure. We were under tight time constraints to have Hospitality Lane extended to Waterman Avenue prior to the opening of the TGIF Restaurant. In order to meet this time constraint, advertising for bids had to be commenced, without reaching an agreement with the District on the exact amount of slope protection that would be required. A distance of 60 feet has been agreed upon with representatives of the District, in meetings subsequent to advertising for bids. The Contractor has given an estimate of $44,212.60 for this extra work, in accordance with a plan prepared by L. A. Wainscott & Associates, the Design Engineer for the project. This work is to be done on a time and material basis, since the exact cost is somewhat indeterminate. The rail and wire revetments will have to be relocated to meet the bridge abutments. Relocation of these revetments will be accomplished by the Flood Control District. The extra work to be done consists, in general, of grading the channel banks on a 1:1 slope and to meet the wing walls, furnishing and placing 75 lb. rock on the graded banks, and pumping grout to hold the rock in place. . Permit No. P-385115 was issued by the Flood Control District on 12/12/85, to grant permission for construction of the bridge. This permit was issued on the understanding that slope protection would be provided to the satisfaction of the District. Since this extra work is required by the Flood Control District and to protect the roadway approaches, we recommend that Change Order No. 2 be approved. The total estimated project cost inc1 uded an amount of $81,822.40 for contingencies, which can be used to finance the cost of the change order. URGENCY CLAUSE It is essential that Change Order No.2 be approved as soon as possible in order to avoid delaying the project and possibly incurring some stand-by charges. 3 75-0264
