That Change Order No, Three to the contract with SCC General
Contractors, for the construction of two racquetball courts, at the
Boy's Club, in accordance with Plan No. 6684 be approved; to authorize
the contractor fur the walls of the courts to meet the dimensions
required by the vendor installing the courts at an increase in contract
cost of $1,195.75, from $141,196,88 to $142,392.63,

STAFF REPORT
The Contractor installed the walls for the racquetball courts
in accordance with the dimensions shown on the plans. 1J0wever,
the subcontractor that fur the panels on the interior walls
discovered that one court was 1 1/2 inches, and the other was 2
inches wider than the standard 20-foot width. These walls have
to be installed to exact tolerances, in order that the pre-cut
pa ne 1 s will fi t.
Furring stripes were nailed to the common wall between the
courts, in order to reduce the widths of the courts to 20'.
These furring strips were 2" x 4", with 1/2" plywood in the
wider court.
The Contractor has quoted a price of $1,195.75 for installing
these furring strips. An estimate for Change Order, signed by
Michael Murphy, Architect, is attached for reference,
,We have reviewed this price and feel that it is fair and
reasonable for the work involved. Therefore, we recommend that
Change Order No. Three be approved,
Change Order No. One was referred back to staff for
renegotiation with the Architect. The Architect has been
contacted and recommends that negotiations be deferred until
the end of the project when all change orders can be done at
one time.
The total estimated project cost, based upon the actual low bid
price, contained an amount of $22,140,00 for contingencies,
which can be used to finance the cost of the extra work.
